DESCRIPTION:  \nSIGS is pleased to welcome our speaker\, Dr. Linda Howe-Ram\, Director of CSUS Guardian Scholars Program (GSP) for Foster Youth.  The program serves students who have experienced the foster care system\, were eligible for the McKinney Vento Act students in high school\, were wards of the court and/or unaccompanied minors.  GSP offers wrap-around services to support students’ journey at Sac State.  Being part of the program means more than just a resource; students are part of a family community. \n\nIn 2024\, CSUS celebrated the opening of a new and expanded center for the Guardian Scholars Program.\nThe program formed a partnership with CSUS Admissions Office to allow all former foster youth guaranteed admission\, if they meet the Admission requirements and eligibility criteria for being a foster youth.\nThe CSUS Guardian Scholars for Foster Youth is the third largest program in the state.\nThe program has celebrated the successful graduation of over 200 Foster Youth in the past 10 years.\n\nPlease RSVP by Sunday\, Nov. 2nd.

DESCRIPTION:The speaker for this meeting is Jackie Simon\, Community Relations Coordinator for Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Sacramento. \nIn addition to her recent employment at CASA\, Jackie has been an advocate for over 12 years.  Over this time\, she has supported 3 youth.  She is currently advocating for an 18 year old young woman who recently achieved her primary goal of graduating from high school in June and has transitioned to Extended Foster Care.  They have been matched for over 3 years. \nOver the years with CASA Sacramento\, she has demonstrated her support for the organization in other capacities by helping at various fundraising events\, serving as a panel member at volunteer training\, as a CASA mentor for monthly CASA volunteer support meetings\, and doing volunteer outreach in the community.  She continues to be passionate about advocation for foster youth and sharing that enthusiasm with others to inspire people in the community to become a consistent and caring adult in a child’s life. \nYou won’t want to miss this inspiring presentation! \nPlease RSVP

DESCRIPTION:Kala Clark will be our guest speaker representing 3 Strands on Tuesday\, March 4.  3Strands Global Foundation was founded in response to an event that shook a small\, tight-knit California community.  A young girl was trafficked for 8 days before she was recovered by law enforcement.  This would later spark the creation of PROTECT prevention education\, which has gone on to educate hundreds of thousands of students on how to stay safe from human trafficking.  We will learn how 3Strands has expanded to include Employ + Empower which has helped support and economically empower hundreds of individuals. \nPlease RSVP
